“I’ve made up my mind. I’m going back to Africa. At least I’ve been around alot: Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland. Many friends haven’t even left Italy yet! Many people nowadays want to go back home too. But they feel ashamed. People will mock them: “Oh, you left, you gave up, you’re cursed, you’re lazy! You came back empty handed!” They’ll fight with you like that. They don’t know what you actually went through, what you suffered. But you know the reality, you want to explain it to them, but they don’t want to understand.
Before I left, I had also talked with many people who told me: “Europe isn’t easy, it’s hard. It’s better to be at home than over there.” And what did we reply : “You’re saying it’s not easy, but then why are you over there and you’re not coming back?” See how we were reasoning like fools ! Because you don’t know the reality! You’re thinking that he’s jealous, that he doesn’t want me to come also. But because you’re also curious, you also want to go and see. And you’re thinking: I’m friends with the nephew of Mr. Kouassi back in the country, and if I get there he’ll come to welcome me, and he’ll host me. Well, no! You’ll find out the truth about how Mr. Kouassi lives over there. He’s in an another world now, in another reality that has nothing to do with what you experience back at home.
Even if I come back without any money, now I know how things work, thanks to everything I’ve been through, to everything I’ve seen. It will help me alot to meet future challenges. And, you see, I have a wife and two small kids back home, and with all the experience that I’ve acquired, I can invest it in them also, so that they can have a better future. That’s why I’m not anxious, I’m relaxed, peaceful. Everything God does is good. That’s life, we have to rely on him. From now onwards, it’s a new beginning for me, back at home in Africa. If I get there safely and we’re still in contact, we’ll speak about it in a year or two. Inch Allah.”
